The Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annang Adjor Amui III, has expressed concern that a longstanding land dispute at the Ashaiman Traffic enclave is delaying major redevelopment projects aimed at transforming the area into a modern commercial and transport hub.
According to the chief, the dispute has its roots in overlapping lease arrangements involving the same parcel of land, resulting in competing ownership claims and years of legal battles.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Nii Amui III explained that part of the land was allocated to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in 1984, while a traders’ association known as the Peaceful Settlers later acquired documentation covering portions of the same property.
The overlapping claims, he noted, have created uncertainty over ownership and prevented the implementation of development plans designed to improve infrastructure and commercial activities within the enclave.
The chief described the situation as the result of an administrative error and indicated that attempts have been made by the relevant authorities to address the matter and find a lasting solution.
He revealed that under the municipality’s town planning scheme, the area was earmarked for extensive commercial development, including modern transport facilities and business infrastructure intended to support economic growth and improve urban organisation.
However, the unresolved dispute has slowed progress and hindered investment opportunities that could have contributed to the transformation of the municipality.
Nii Amui III commended the current leadership of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly for its commitment to advancing redevelopment initiatives despite the challenges and expressed optimism that the impasse would eventually be resolved.
He called on all stakeholders involved in the dispute to pursue peaceful and lawful avenues for settlement, stressing that cooperation and dialogue were essential to unlocking the enclave’s development potential.
The chief reaffirmed the traditional authority’s support for the implementation of the municipality’s planning scheme and efforts to modernise infrastructure in Ashaiman, saying such projects are critical to the area’s long-term growth and prosperity.
