The 2026 World Congress of the Assemblies of God Fellowship has been challenged to move beyond religious discourse and use its international platform to promote practical solutions to some of Africa’s pressing social and economic challenges.
The call was made by Brother Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg of the AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC), Ghana, in a position paper ahead of the World Congress scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2026, in Accra.
In the paper titled “Rekindling Azusa Street in Accra 2026: A Prophetic Call for the Gospel to Speak to the Condition and Future of Africa,” he said the gathering should provide an opportunity for Christian leaders to critically examine the challenges confronting African societies and consider practical ways the Church could contribute to addressing them.
He identified youth unemployment, responsible management of natural resources, peace and security, and social justice as issues requiring urgent attention.
Brother Aziginaateeg said the Church’s responsibility should go beyond prayer, worship and other religious activities to include practical interventions aimed at alleviating human suffering.
He noted that millions of Africans continued to face challenges including hunger, unemployment, homelessness, disease, insecurity, social exclusion and despair, requiring a faith that translated into tangible community support.
Drawing on the ministry of Jesus Christ, particularly His response to hunger, sickness, marginalisation and injustice, the paper argued that Christian faith should be demonstrated through service, compassion and care for communities.
The paper also urged Church leaders to use their influence to promote good governance and accountability, including speaking against corruption and advocating justice, protection for vulnerable groups and opportunities for young people.
It raised questions about the extent to which Christian values were reflected in the conduct of Christians occupying public positions and whether their faith translated into integrity, accountability and justice in the discharge of their responsibilities.
According to the paper, the Congress could conclude with an “Accra Call” containing a series of Christian messages and commitments on good governance, peace and African unity.
It said the gathering also offered Ghana and the wider African Church an opportunity to demonstrate practical Christian hospitality and establish lasting relationships among participants from different countries.
The Assemblies of God Fellowship World Congress will bring together delegates for the international gathering in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026.
