Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded into police custody for one week over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The Dansoman Circuit Court ordered the remand on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following Ayitey Powers’ appearance before the court.
He was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, after a video circulating on social media allegedly captured him making threats against the life of the NSA boss.
The arrest came after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) called on the police to investigate the alleged remarks and prosecute the former boxer if found culpable.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing, with authorities expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and the contents of the video.
Ayitey Powers is scheduled to return to the Dansoman Circuit Court on September 2, 2026.
The allegations against him remain untested in court, and no determination of guilt has been made.
