Baidoo’s Sheroes Reign Ends as Kwabi Storms to ‘Love Edition’ Crown
The quest for a third straight Sheroes title by Augustina Baidoo came to an abrupt halt on Saturday as Cynthia Kwabi produced a dominant run to capture the Sheroes 2 “Love Edition” Singles crown.
Organised by the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), the competition saw Kwabi rise above a competitive field with a blend of composure and clinical execution.
After progressing steadily through the group phase, Kwabi signalled her title ambitions in the round of 16 with a commanding 3–0 straight-sets victory over Millicent Mettle. She carried that momentum into the quarterfinals, defeating Celia Baah Danso 4–1 before edging past Hilda Agbottah 4–2 in a hard-fought semifinal.
The final against Joanita Borteye had been widely anticipated as a potential thriller, but Kwabi quickly took control. With precise placement and measured tempo, she dictated play and sealed a convincing 4–1 triumph to secure the championship.
While Kwabi celebrated a breakthrough victory, the tournament marked the end of Baidoo’s bid for a historic three-peat. The two-time champion settled for a joint third-place finish, alongside Agbottah.
Borteye, meanwhile, impressed on her route to the final, ultimately finishing as runner-up after a spirited campaign.
Kwabi’s success adds a fresh chapter to the growing Sheroes Series and shifts attention to the upcoming “Show Time” edition slated for February 21, 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where contenders will once again battle for supremacy.
