The Bia East District Assembly, in collaboration with the District Education Directorate, celebrated Ghana’s 69th Independence Day with a vibrant cultural display involving public and private schools in the district.
The event, held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Fostering Hope,” featured drumming, traditional dance, and poetry recitals, highlighting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
Oppong Kwadwo Ansu, Bia East District Director of Education, noted that independence is not only a political milestone but also a call for citizens to contribute to national prosperity. He said such events help preserve cultural traditions and provide learning opportunities beyond the classroom, commending teachers and parents for their contributions in preparing students.
In the competition, R/C Primary took first place with 86 points, followed by English and Arabic School in second with 82 points, and D/A Junior High School in third with 79 points.
During the event, Richard Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Bia East, praised the initiative for promoting cultural awareness among the youth and highlighted ongoing development projects in the district.
He announced that the government plans to complete the Agenda 111 Project, upgrade the Adabokrom Clinic to a polyclinic, and improve road infrastructure, including the Bediako Junction to Camp Junction stretch under the Big Push programme. Work is also progressing on the Adabokrom to Camp 15 Junction Road.
The MP further revealed plans to construct six new classroom blocks across the district at Suma Nyame Bekyere, Camp 15 Islamic Primary, Akwaabengkrom School, Abotareye, Baamoah, and Kaase Islamic School, aiming to enhance educational facilities for local students.
The Independence Day cultural display not only showcased student talents but also reinforced the district’s commitment to education, cultural preservation, and community development.
