The Anglican Bishop of Tamale, Right Reverend Dennis Dabukari Tong, has called on Christians to live authentic lives rooted in humility, truth, and service, warning against the growing tendency to project false or extravagant lifestyles.
Preaching at Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Parish in Bolgatanga, Bishop Tong cautioned that Christian faith should not be reduced to outward appearances or social image, but should reflect genuine spiritual transformation.
He urged believers to focus on building lives that reflect the teachings of Christ, stressing that Christianity calls for integrity rather than imitation or pretense. According to him, Christians are meant to build relationships, strengthen communities, and serve both people and nature, not live in ways that mislead others.
Bishop Tong reminded the congregation that the Christian faith is anchored in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which he described as the foundation of salvation and hope. He noted that this belief should inspire confidence, remove fear, and guide believers to live purpose-driven lives.
Quoting biblical principles, he encouraged Christians to prioritise spiritual growth over material pursuits, referencing the call to seek first the kingdom of God. He explained that a faithful life is one that reflects “newness in Christ,” marked by peace, love, and dedication to service.
The bishop also cautioned against returning to what he described as an “old way of life,” urging Christians instead to embrace transformation and spiritual renewal. He stressed that believers are called to evangelise and lead others toward Christ through their actions and conduct.
According to him, true Christian living should inspire hope and contribute positively to society by strengthening human relationships and promoting care for the environment.
He concluded by encouraging worshippers to live lives that reflect sincerity and purpose, grounded in the teachings of Christ rather than appearances or material excess.
