Ghana’s Black Maidens will face a stern test in the group stage of the 2027 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup after being drawn alongside regional rivals Nigeria, Togo and Niger.
The sub-regional tournament, to be hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, is scheduled to kick off on September 15, 2026, with Ghana set to use the competition as part of its preparations for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The draw places the Black Maidens in a competitive Group B, where they will have to negotiate a series of difficult fixtures against teams with ambitions of advancing to the knockout stage.
Nigeria are expected to provide Ghana with one of the toughest challenges in the group, while Togo and Niger will also be determined to cause an upset and secure progression to the next round.
For Ghana’s technical team, the tournament presents an opportunity to assess the readiness of the squad against quality opposition before the World Cup.
The coaches are expected to use the competition to experiment with tactical approaches, assess individual players and build greater understanding among members of the squad.
The matches will also provide valuable competitive exposure for the young players as Ghana seeks to sharpen its preparations ahead of the global tournament.
With progression from the group likely to depend on consistency against all three opponents, the Black Maidens will need to make a strong start to their campaign and maintain their form throughout the group stage.
