Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, have embarked on their training tour in Senegal as part of their preparation for the postponed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The squad arrived in Senegal for a nine-day training camp aimed at fine-tuning their performance ahead of upcoming friendlies.
On Thursday, April 3, all 22 players named by head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren were present at their first training session.
This marked an important step as the team gears up for its international friendlies and the larger challenge of WAFCON. Notably, five players who missed the February training camp in Morocco, which was Bjorkegren’s first as head coach, were present, signaling a full squad for this camp.
The Black Queens’ friendly fixtures are scheduled for April 5 and April 8, where they will face host nation Senegal in back-to-back encounters. These games will provide valuable match experience as the team continues their preparations to compete at the continental level.
Coach Bjorkegren is focused on using this time in Senegal to strengthen team dynamics, improve tactics, and build momentum as Ghana targets success in the 2024 WAFCON.
