Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren remains optimistic about his team’s progress despite their recent defeat to Morocco in a friendly match ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Rather than focusing on the result, Björkegren highlighted the purpose of the training tour, emphasizing its role in refining team tactics, strengthening cohesion, and improving overall gameplay. He expressed satisfaction with the team’s transformation, noting significant improvements both on and off the pitch.
“This team arrived as one group and is leaving as a much stronger unit,” he said. “We have worked on defensive organization, high pressing, and playing with intensity. While the result against Morocco wasn’t ideal, the effort and execution were encouraging.”
He also commended the squad’s depth and the players’ dedication to adapting to his philosophy. “I’m impressed by their willingness to learn. They are eager to improve, and their commitment to making the country proud is evident.”
With the Morocco training camp now concluded, the Black Queens will turn their attention to the final phase of preparations as they gear up for WAFCON later this year.
