Ghana’s Black Stars missed out on a spot in the 2025 Unity Cup final after a 2-1 defeat to rivals Nigeria at the GTech Community Stadium in Brentford, UK.
Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring for the Super Eagles in the 14th minute, followed by an own goal from Ghana’s Razak Simpson just five minutes later, giving Nigeria an early two-goal advantage.
Despite a spirited second-half display, substitute Brandon Thomas Asante’s 70th-minute strike proved insufficient for Ghana, who now turn their attention to a third-place clash with Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday, May 31.
Coach Otto Addo was forced to field a reshuffled squad due to key absences, handing debuts to Aaron Essel and Christopher Bonsu Baah, and starting local talents like Razak Simpson and Kamaradini Mamudu.
Although Ghana improved after halftime, missed chances and a resilient Nigerian defence sealed their fate. Nigeria will now face Jamaica in the tournament final.
