Football nostalgia will take centre stage at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf on Saturday, September 19, 2026, when a star-studded Black Stars Legends side takes on United Merchant Bank (UMB) Speed Stars in a special friendly.
The match, being organised under the auspices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), is expected to bring together former Black Stars internationals and senior executives of UMB in a celebration of football and corporate partnership.
The fixture forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between Ghana’s football community and the corporate sector, while giving supporters an opportunity to watch some of the country’s former internationals return to competitive action.
The Black Stars Legends squad includes former national goalkeepers Fatau Dauda and Sammy Adjei, alongside Afo Dodoo, Yaw Acheampong, Yaw Preko and George Alhassan.
Other former internationals named for the game are Daniel Opare, Prince Tagoe, Majeed Waris, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, John Paintsil and Jerry Akaminko.
The reunion is expected to provide a nostalgic experience for football fans and highlight the enduring connection between the former players and the sport they represented at the international level.
UMB will be led by its Captain and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Philip Oti-Mensah, who will captain the Speed Stars team and line up alongside other members of the bank.
The UMB squad also features Dennis Nyaku, Kingsley Sesenu, Christian Boakye, Richard Sarfo, Patrick Afrifa and Abdul Rahman Musa, among others.
UMB deepens football partnership
The friendly also comes against the backdrop of UMB’s growing partnership with Ghana football.
The bank is an official Banking Partner of the Ghana Football Association and has further strengthened its commitment to the sport by becoming headline sponsor of the Division One League for the next three years.
The partnership is aimed at supporting the development and growth of football in Ghana.
The Saturday fixture is therefore expected to provide a platform for UMB and football stakeholders to further strengthen their relationship while celebrating the sport and its former stars.
