BOSTenergies has intensified efforts to support girl-child education by distributing menstrual hygiene products to selected schools across its operational areas in Ghana, as part of activities marking this year’s International Menstrual Hygiene Day.
The donation, which included sanitary pads, hand sanitisers, tissue paper and other essential hygiene items, is aimed at promoting menstrual health awareness and ensuring that adolescent girls are not hindered in their education due to menstruation.
According to the company, the initiative is designed to build confidence, protect dignity and create a more supportive, period-friendly school environment.
Speaking on the programme, the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of BOSTenergies, Mr Emmanuel Mettle-Nunoo Jnr, said the intervention was inspired by the company’s Managing Director, Mr Afetsi Awoonor, and forms part of broader efforts to promote the welfare of the girl-child.
He explained that the initiative was not only about distribution of sanitary products but also about education on menstrual hygiene management, personal care and self-esteem to empower girls to stay in school and focus on their studies.
The programme was implemented through BOSTenergies’ Corporate Social Responsibility Volunteer Programme in collaboration with the company’s Ladies’ group, Health Unit and Human Resource Unit. Female students also benefited from interactive sessions on menstrual hygiene and personal development.
Management officials, including the General Manager for Business Support Services, Ms Elinda Akosua Agyei, and Health Manager, Ms Anita Serwaa Octhere Darko, emphasised that menstrual health education is key to improving girls’ wellbeing and academic participation.
Ms Beatrice Boateng, President of BOSTenergies Ladies, encouraged students to remain focused on their education, stressing that menstruation should never become a barrier to academic success.
The Ghana Education Service Director for the Asuogyaman District, Mrs Evelyn Awo Ofori, commended the initiative, describing it as one of the most significant menstrual health interventions in the district.
Headmaster of Kpone Presbyterian School, Mr Daniel Obodai, also praised BOSTenergies for its commitment to improving the welfare of schoolgirls.
The company said the initiative aligns with national efforts under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, particularly programmes aimed at supporting girls’ education through improved menstrual health support.
BOSTenergies reaffirmed its commitment to community development, gender equality and ensuring that every girl can pursue education with dignity and confidence.
