Cagliari forward Yael Trepy is receiving intensive care in a hospital in Sassari after an incident at a swimming pool in northern Sardinia, with Italian media reporting that the 20-year-old footballer nearly drowned.
Cagliari confirmed that Trepy is currently being treated in intensive care but did not disclose details about what led to the incident.
The Serie A club said it remained in close contact with Trepy’s medical team and his family while appealing for privacy.
Italian media reports indicate that Trepy was rescued on Sunday after reportedly swallowing a significant amount of water while at a swimming pool in Porto Cervo.
The reports further claim that doctors placed the young forward in a medically induced coma as he received treatment.
Cagliari, however, has not officially confirmed those details.
Trepy joined Cagliari’s academy in 2022 from Paris-based Union Sportive Créteil and progressed into the first team.
The French forward made eight Serie A appearances last season, scoring once.
His most recent appearance came on Friday when Cagliari defeated Arezzo 1-0 in the Coppa Italia, with Trepy playing 54 minutes.
The club said it would provide further updates on his condition when appropriate.
“The club asks for privacy to be respected and will provide further updates as soon as possible,” Cagliari said.
