The Headmistress of Chemu Senior High School, Vicentia Annin-Agyei, has sounded a distress call over the serious consequences inadequate infrastructure is having on students’ lives, urging immediate intervention.
Speaking to reporters, Mrs. Annin-Agyei revealed that due to a lack of boarding facilities, many students are compelled to seek rented accommodation near the school — often leading to precarious living arrangements.
“Some of them are even living with their boyfriends and girlfriends,” she disclosed, stressing that many students find themselves in these risky situations out of necessity rather than choice.
“They are forced into that situation, not that they intended to be there, but because the circumstances leave them no other option,” she emphasized.
The headmistress explained that the school’s inadequate infrastructure has forced Chemu SHS to operate under a transitional system, where only two out of three year groups are in school at a time due to the shortage of facilities.
Mrs. Annin-Agyei made a passionate appeal for urgent investments in school infrastructure, noting that resolving these issues would help protect the students’ welfare and promote a healthier academic environment.
“We must address these issues first if we are serious about curbing the social challenges affecting our students,” she concluded.
