An Adenta Circuit Court has delivered a stiff sentence against two young men convicted of a late-night armed robbery targeting a mobile phone repairer in the Adenta-Commandos area of Accra.
Bright Adjei Boaten, 21, and Sulley Iddrisu, 18, were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. The sentences, imposed by presiding judge Angela Attachie, are to run concurrently.
Court proceedings revealed that the duo used an unregistered Royal motorbike to trail their victim, David Ossan Kwabla, after he closed from work on November 8, 2025. At about 11:30 p.m., the complainant was intercepted near the Adenta Lotto Kiosk, where Boaten, who sat as the pillion rider, allegedly brandished a cutlass and threatened to slash him if he resisted.
Faced with the threat, the repairer handed over his belongings, including a black bag containing a Samsung X8 phone, an HP notebook laptop, an LG phone and a Tecno handset. The assailants also seized another bag holding his ATM and Ghana cards before fleeing the scene.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant promptly reported the incident, leading to investigations that resulted in the arrest of the suspects, who both reside at Madina Ritz Junction. In their caution statements, the accused admitted to committing the offence.
The court’s ruling underscores the judiciary’s firm stance on violent robbery, particularly crimes involving weapons and attacks on workers returning home late at night.
