The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called on Ghanaians to put aside partisan differences and build meaningful relationships that promote unity and national development.
He expressed concern over the growing hostility between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that excessive political rivalry was eroding the strong interpersonal ties needed to sustain national cohesion.
Mr Debrah made the remarks when he addressed members of the Accra Friendship Club during their Dinner and Awards Night held in Accra on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
He urged citizens to prioritise mutual respect, understanding and forgiveness in their interactions, noting that genuine relationships often outlast political cycles and social differences.
Reflecting on his personal experiences, Mr Debrah recounted his long-standing relationship with former President John Agyekum Kufuor, which began during his time as a student at Achimota School.
He explained that while he was a sixth-form student, Mr Kufuor’s son, Kofi Kufuor, was his junior at the school and he served as his “school father,” a role that involved mentoring and supporting younger students.
According to him, that early connection later developed into a close relationship with the Kufuor family, including occasional visits to the former President’s residence near Kotoka International Airport in Accra, where he received guidance and encouragement that shaped his outlook on life.
“At the time, I never imagined that he would one day become President of Ghana or that I would also serve as Chief of Staff,” Mr Debrah said, adding that the experience showed how relationships built on trust and respect could influence one’s future.
He further encouraged members of the club to practise forgiveness, stressing that letting go of resentment helps individuals avoid bitterness and maintain healthier relationships.
Mr Debrah commended the Accra Friendship Club for fostering unity and goodwill among its members and said such platforms help strengthen social bonds within the country.
He also conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, noting that the government remains committed to working with the private sector to transform Ghana into a major manufacturing and industrial hub in West Africa.
Expressing optimism about the nation’s prospects, Mr Debrah urged Ghanaians to remain hopeful as the country approaches its 70th anniversary of independence.
Earlier in the day, the Chief of Staff participated in a health walk at the University of Ghana before travelling to Kumasi to represent the President at the funeral of the sister of Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, founder of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre, widely known as “Opambour” or “Prophet 1”. Later in the evening, he returned to Accra to attend the Accra Friendship Club event held under the Ridge Underbridge, which was also attended by former President Kufuor.
