At this year’s Eid al-Adha celebration in Ho, Volta Region, the Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas Hamidu, delivered a powerful message urging Muslims to focus on leaving behind a legacy of virtue, while the Ho Municipal Police Commander raised security awareness amid concerns of growing criminal opportunism.
In a heartfelt sermon to mark the “Festival of the Sacrifice,” Alhaji Hamidu called on the Muslim community to lead lives of righteousness, emphasizing that good deeds outlive individuals and shape their lasting legacy.
“Let us always strive to do good, so that when we are no more, God will cause others to remember us for our good deeds,” he said.
The Imam also emphasized the need for unity and peaceful coexistence, calling for increased community involvement in education and health — areas he identified as key priorities for the development of the Muslim community.
Adding a civic dimension to the celebration, Superintendent Jeremiah Alale, Ho Municipal Police Commander, reminded worshippers that Islam is rooted in peace and unity, reflecting the spirit of Prophet Abraham’s obedience.
He warned, however, that peace should not be mistaken for security.
“Criminals often target calm places like Ho,” he said, while urging residents to take precautions during prayer gatherings by assigning someone to stay behind and safeguard homes.
Superintendent Alale also announced plans to form a community watchdog committee, calling for volunteers to collaborate with police to curb crime.
“Allah helps those who help themselves. Don’t just pray and leave your house unattended — take precautions. Allah works through people,” he noted.
The address served as a reminder that beyond spiritual reflection, Eid offers an opportunity to reaffirm both moral duty and civic responsibility.
