The bereaved family of Captain Frank Amoanyi Donkor and his younger brother, Elijah Ofori Donkor, who died in the recent microlight aircraft crash at Site 18, Tema, has urged the public to remain calm and offer community support as they prepare for the funeral.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement organized by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Apostle Martin Larbi, representing the family, shared the tragic circumstances of the crash. The victims were relatives of Apostle Larbi, with Captain Donkor traveling from Ho to Accra for a meeting and taking his younger brother along. The aircraft reportedly developed a mechanical fault shortly after takeoff, leading to the fatal incident.
The family expressed gratitude to the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB) for their swift response and ongoing investigation. Apostle Larbi also acknowledged the emotional toll on pupils and staff of the school affected by the crash.
He announced that the funeral rites are scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026, with special permission from President John Dramani Mahama to hold the final ceremony at the State House forecourt in Accra, highlighting the significance of the victims’ contributions to the community.
The family intends to engage school authorities on potential support initiatives for the affected students and staff as a tribute to the deceased. The Tema Metropolitan Assembly assured the public that it would continue collaborating with aviation investigators to determine the cause of the crash and strengthen safety protocols in the metropolis.
