A 29-year-old farmer, Christopher Kaidabi, has been fined GH¢3,000 by the Enchi District Magistrate Court for stealing various personal items belonging to a student, totaling GH¢1,595 in value. Known in the community as Kwabena, the accused admitted to charges of unlawful entry and theft.
Presiding Magistrate Lawrence Buanor-Buer sentenced Kaidabi to pay GH¢3,000 on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently. Additionally, he must compensate the complainant with GH¢3,000. Failure to pay both the fine and compensation will result in 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The incident occurred on May 11, 2025, when the complainant left home for his farm without locking his door. Upon returning around noon, he discovered that his belongings—including school supplies, clothing, and shoes—had been stolen.
Suspecting Kaidabi, who is reputed for similar misconduct in the area, the complainant confronted him but was initially met with denial. The next day, however, Kaidabi confessed when confronted again and was handed over to the police by a local neighbourhood watch leader.
During investigations, Kaidabi claimed he sold some of the stolen items for GH¢300 but failed to assist police in locating the buyer or recovering the stolen goods. A search of his premises also yielded nothing, contradicting parts of his statement.
