Three farmer groups in the Bodi District are set to scale up production and reduce post-harvest losses following the donation of modern threshing equipment to support their operations.
The intervention, led by World Vision Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) through the Bodi District Assembly, includes a maize thresher and two rice threshers aimed at improving efficiency in grain processing.
The Tikobo Alavanyo women’s group, Kafukaa Amazing Grace Rice Farmers, and Lawerkrom Yesu Adom Rice Farmers were the direct beneficiaries of the equipment, which is expected to ease labour-intensive processing methods and enhance output quality.
Project Officer Madam Selasi Aku Baku explained that the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen agricultural value chains and promote sustainable livelihoods in rural communities.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the district, Bodi District Chief Executive Mr. Stephen Baidoo urged beneficiaries to maintain the machines properly and approach farming as a viable commercial venture. He further encouraged farmers to consider expanding cassava cultivation to take advantage of the upcoming Garri processing factory in the area, which is expected to provide a ready market.
MOFA District Director Mr. Isaac Mensah welcomed the support, noting that mechanisation at the community level would contribute significantly to food security and rural economic development. He also advised farmers to form or join recognised groups to increase their access to similar interventions in the future.
The donation marks a practical step toward modernising smallholder agriculture in the district while positioning farmer groups to improve incomes and productivity.
