The University of Education, Winneba is celebrating a significant academic milestone as nearly 8,000 students complete their programmes, with women forming a clear majority and a large proportion achieving top honours.
At the climax of its 30th congregation, the university is awarding degrees, diplomas and certificates to 7,951 graduates drawn from campuses and distance learning centres nationwide. Notably, 65 per cent of the graduating class are female, reflecting growing gender inclusion in higher education.
Vice-Chancellor Stephen Jobson Mitchual described the composition and performance of the cohort as evidence of the institution’s academic progress and expanding impact. He noted that more than 45 per cent of undergraduate students attained First Class or Second-Class Upper Division honours.
Beyond academic performance, the graduation highlights the increasing reach of UEW’s distance education model, which continues to provide flexible, technology-driven learning opportunities for working professionals and students in underserved communities.
The university has also expanded its infrastructure, with new and upgraded centres aimed at improving access and maintaining quality standards across its nationwide operations.
Prof. Mitchual urged graduates to translate their knowledge into practical impact, stressing the importance of professionalism, integrity and continuous learning as they transition into the workforce.
The ceremony, held over four days across multiple centres, underscores UEW’s growing role in shaping Ghana’s human capital and advancing inclusive, accessible tertiary education.
