The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released funds to support the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country, in a move aimed at addressing concerns over food supply disruptions in second-cycle institutions.
The decision comes amid growing pressure from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), which had warned of possible school closures if urgent financial support was not provided to sustain feeding programmes.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Mr Daniel Fenyi, the GES confirmed that the outstanding funds have now been made available to ensure continuous supply of essential food items to schools nationwide.
The release follows a recent stakeholder meeting involving the Education Ministry, led by Sector Minister Mr Haruna Iddrisu, which ended without a final resolution to concerns raised over a potential food crisis in schools.
GES said it has already begun processes to facilitate the timely and efficient disbursement of the funds to all affected schools to prevent any disruption to academic activities.
The Service further indicated that monitoring and accountability measures have been strengthened to ensure that the resources are used strictly for their intended purpose.
Reaffirming its commitment, the GES assured stakeholders that student welfare remains a top priority, alongside efforts to maintain stability and improve learning conditions across the country’s senior high and technical schools.
