The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has appointed veteran tactician Carlos Queiroz as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
Queiroz, who brings decades of international coaching experience, will lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The Portuguese coach has an impressive track record at the global showpiece. He guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 World Cup, led Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
Beyond the World Cup, Queiroz has held coaching roles in several countries, including Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, adding to his vast international experience.
He is expected to immediately begin preparations with the Black Stars ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will open its World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in the remaining group stage matches.
The GFA believes Queiroz’s experience and leadership will be key as Ghana aims to make a strong impression on football’s biggest stage.
