The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has finalized the selection of the first batch of 2,000 recruits, who will begin training as part of a nationwide enlistment exercise.
The recruits are scheduled to report to regional selection centres across Ghana’s 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9 a.m. to receive their appointment letters and training prospectus, according to Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin.
This initial group is the first of four batches planned for the recruitment exercise. The Armed Forces assured applicants who were deferred due to treatable medical conditions that they will have the opportunity to be reconsidered at no additional cost once they recover.
Notably, the first batch includes 18 individuals injured in last year’s El-Wak Stadium stampede, along with five candidates sponsored by families of victims, reflecting the military’s recognition of the tragedy.
The GAF also highlighted the critical support of all 16 Regional Administrations in decentralizing the recruitment process to make it more accessible, aligning with government policy. Remaining applicants were encouraged to remain patient, with further selections to include high-performing candidates and special consideration for residents of Sikaman in the Ashanti Region who assisted during last year’s helicopter crash rescue efforts.
This enlistment marks a significant step in bolstering Ghana’s defense capacity while acknowledging and honoring citizens affected by past national incidents.
