The Ghana Navy has stepped up preparations for the 2026 Ghana Armed Forces Inter-Service Shooting Competition, Exercise FIREBLAST 2026, with a focus on improving marksmanship, discipline and operational readiness among its personnel.
The preparations took shape during a three-day Group B Inter-Port Shooting Competition organised by the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) at the Agorta Shooting Range in the Volta Region from September 2 to 4, 2026.
The event brought together teams from the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), NAVTRAC and the Naval Headquarters/Riverine Command (NHQ/RIVCOM), providing personnel with an opportunity to test their shooting abilities under competitive conditions.
Participants competed in the M16 Standard, Carbine, Falling Plates and Pistol categories as the Navy assessed personnel for proficiency in handling and using service weapons.
Beyond determining the best shooters, the competition was also used to identify potential members of the provisional Ghana Navy Shooting Team for the upcoming inter-service contest.
Flag Officer Commanding NAVTRAC, Commodore James Adongo Agambire, said regular shooting competitions were essential to maintaining high standards of weapon proficiency, discipline and professionalism within the Navy.
He urged personnel to approach training and live-firing exercises with commitment and discipline, noting that sustained preparation was important to improving their operational effectiveness.
Commodore Raymond Kyaano, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command and Guest of Honour, commended NAVTRAC for hosting the competition and urged participants to maintain their preparations ahead of Exercise FIREBLAST 2026.
He particularly encouraged selected shooters to remain focused and disciplined and to aim for a strong representation of the Ghana Navy at the inter-service competition.
The Eastern Naval Command emerged as the overall best team at the end of the contest, with NAVTRAC finishing second and NHQ/RIVCOM placing third.
Commander Evans Kwame Adzakloe was named Best Pistol Firer, while Sub-Lieutenant Delali Dogbe emerged Overall Best Female Firer.
Leading Seaman Ametoke Ben was adjudged Overall Best Male Firer.
The competition forms part of the Navy’s broader efforts to maintain operational preparedness by continuously testing and strengthening the skills of personnel across its various formations.
