The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced plans to strengthen security across its facilities following a rise in reported attacks on healthcare personnel.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Service described recent incidents of aggression against staff as alarming and unacceptable, warning that such actions threaten the safety of frontline workers and disrupt healthcare delivery.
According to the GHS, several cases have been recorded in which personnel were subjected to intimidation and hostility while carrying out their professional duties. The Service emphasized that while it remains committed to providing high-quality healthcare nationwide, respect and cooperation from the public are essential to sustaining effective service delivery.
“Our staff must be treated with dignity and respect,” the statement stressed, reaffirming management’s solidarity with health workers who continue to operate under challenging conditions.
The GHS underscored that it would not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety or well-being of its employees. It strongly condemned all forms of violence and intimidation directed at healthcare professionals, describing such acts as detrimental to both staff morale and patient care.
To address the situation, the Service said it is collaborating closely with relevant security agencies to enhance protective measures within hospitals and clinics. The goal, it noted, is to ensure a secure environment for both health workers and patients.
Reiterating its commitment to safety, the GHS assured the public that safeguarding its personnel remains a top priority as it continues to deliver essential health services across the country.
