Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector has received a major boost following the signing of a new agreement between the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Petroleum Commission to jointly market and promote seismic and geochemical data from the Voltaian Basin Project.
The collaboration, officials say, is designed to position Ghana as a competitive and attractive destination for oil and gas investment, with the Voltaian Basin seen as one of the country’s most promising frontiers for exploration.
By providing investors with access to high-quality, reliable data, the deal is expected to reduce risks, accelerate exploration, and ultimately unlock new revenue streams for Ghana’s economy.
Acting Chief Executive of GNPC, Kwame Ntow Amoah, hailed the agreement as a bold move toward ensuring value for money from the country’s natural resources.
“This partnership allows us to maximise the value of Ghana’s data assets and ensures that both the National Oil Company and the Regulator work hand-in-hand to drive investment into the sector,” he said.
Officials also stressed that the joint initiative reflects government’s commitment to transparency and fair resource management while creating opportunities for local and international companies seeking entry into Ghana’s petroleum industry.
With the Voltaian Basin holding vast untapped potential, stakeholders believe the GNPC–Petroleum Commission partnership could prove decisive in shaping the country’s energy future.
