Political commentator Karbo has called for greater emphasis on institutional accountability and concrete government action in addressing challenges surrounding the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
His comments follow a recent appeal by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams for prayers for GoldBod amid concerns about challenges confronting the institution and what he described as powerful interests working against efforts to ensure that the right things are done.
While acknowledging the importance of prayer and personal faith, Karbo argued that spiritual intervention should complement rather than replace practical measures required to address governance challenges.
“You have raised a critical point about governance,” Karbo said in response to the Archbishop’s call.
He said Ghana’s democratic system depended on transparent decision-making, evidence-based policies and public officials being held accountable for their actions.
According to him, citizens should not rely solely on expressions of concern or appeals for divine intervention when national institutions face challenges.
He argued that effective governance required measurable actions capable of addressing problems and producing tangible results.
“When rhetoric replaces action, trust erodes and real problems go unsolved,” he stated.
Karbo therefore urged citizens to demand clear and measurable results from public officials and insist on transparency in the management of public institutions.
He also called for the protection of the independence of state institutions, saying public officials must remain accountable to the Constitution and the people of Ghana.
His intervention has added a governance dimension to the ongoing discussion about GoldBod, with the focus shifting from calls for prayers to the broader question of how institutional challenges should be addressed.
Karbo stressed that faith could provide comfort and hope but maintained that it should go hand in hand with responsible leadership, effective policy implementation and active civic participation.
He said strengthening public institutions and ensuring accountability were essential to restoring public confidence and resolving pressing national challenges.
