The Greater Accra Region has emerged as a leader in development planning after becoming the first region to secure full certification of Medium-Term Development Plans for all its 29 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for the 2026–2029 period.
The achievement, announced by Audrey Smock Amoah, highlights strong institutional coordination and adherence to national planning standards. She noted that the certification reflects disciplined planning processes and effective collaboration between the Regional Coordinating Council and local assemblies in aligning with national development frameworks.
According to her, certified plans are critical because public spending is assessed against them by auditors, making compliance essential for transparency and accountability. She urged other regions to follow Greater Accra’s example by ensuring timely submissions and strict alignment with national priorities.
Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Nii Moi Thompson, praised the region’s leadership but cautioned that certification must lead to real development outcomes. He stressed that the focus should now shift to effective implementation, measurable impact, and improved service delivery.
Meanwhile, Linda Ocloo described the milestone as both an honour and a responsibility, reaffirming the region’s commitment to translating approved plans into tangible improvements in infrastructure, job creation, sanitation, and public services.
The presentation of certificates to all participating assemblies marks a significant step toward strengthening accountability and results-driven governance, positioning Greater Accra as a model for disciplined development planning across the country.
