Caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) are finally receiving long-awaited arrears for the third term of the 2025 academic year, a move expected to ease tensions and restore confidence in the scheme.
A statement signed by Siiba Alfa, Director of Public Relations at the GSFP, confirmed that payments have commenced after validation and processing of the necessary data. The arrears cover 56 feeding days and are being paid at the newly approved rate of GH¢2.00 per pupil per day.
For months, caterers had voiced frustration over delays that threatened the smooth running of the programme. The GSFP expressed gratitude for their patience and commitment, acknowledging their critical role in feeding thousands of children in public basic schools nationwide.
“We commend the Government and all relevant stakeholders for honouring this commitment,” the statement read.
National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor said the payments form part of efforts to strengthen the programme, improve nutrition, and boost school attendance. She added that GSFP remains committed to transparency and timely disbursement going forward.
The release of funds marks a crucial step toward stabilising the school feeding scheme, which has often faced setbacks due to delayed payments, sparking concern among both caterers and parents.
