Ghanaian singer Gyakie has explained the context behind her viral “once it gets inside, you’ll feel it” remark, saying the comment was about the emotional impact of music and not the suggestive meaning some social media users attached to it.
The singer clarified the statement while speaking at the recent OkayAfrica Culture Cafe at Jambo Spaces in Accra.
According to Gyakie, she was using the idea of music being “injected” into a listener to describe the feeling created when a record connects with its audience.
“If you put the record player in there, you’re gonna hear the music and you’re gonna feel it. So it was me talking about music being injected and I am feeling good,” she explained.
Her comments followed reactions on X after portions of her earlier statement circulated online, with some users interpreting the wording differently.
Gyakie said her intended meaning was strictly connected to the experience of listening to and feeling music.
New projects ahead
Beyond addressing the viral comment, Gyakie used the event to announce plans for new music and a live performance later in the year.
She disclosed that she would stage a live show in December, although the date had not yet been announced.
“I’m so happy that all this is going to happen this year because it’s been a long time coming. The show is happening this December,” she said.
The singer urged fans to look out for the official announcement of the date.
She also revealed that she is working on a new EP and preparing to release a new single “very, very soon.”
The projects are expected to form part of Gyakie’s musical activities as she prepares for a busy close to the year.
