In celebration of Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary, the Ho Municipal Assembly has organised a large-scale clean-up exercise across the municipality scheduled for Friday, March 6, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The initiative aligns with a nationwide directive from the President of Ghana for patriotic activities to mark the anniversary, and aims to reinforce efforts to maintain Ho’s reputation as a clean and green “Oxygen City.”
A statement from Mr Henry Y. Amesimeku, Municipal Coordinating Director, indicated that schools, churches, institutions, and security agencies had been assigned specific routes to undertake cleaning, weeding, desilting, and other beautification tasks.
Key assignments include the University of Health and Allied Sciences covering the stretch from UHAS Junction to Diamond Street Roundabout, the Electricity Company of Ghana responsible for PWD Junction to CBG, and the Ghana Water Company Limited alongside the Ghana National Fire Service managing PWD Junction to the Regional Police Headquarters.
Other institutions including Holy Spirit Teachers Training College, Ho Technical University, OLA SHS, Mawuli SHS, Mawuko SHS, Sokode Senior High Technical School, and Ideal College, as well as the Volta Regional Police Training School, will oversee assigned areas within the municipality. Health facilities such as the Nurses Training College and Ho Teaching Hospital will focus on stretches from Lemgo Junction to Kings Filling Station, while the Municipal Hospital will manage the area from the hospital to Glalah Bridge.
Security agencies including the Ghana Prison Service and Ghana Immigration Service have also been allocated designated zones. Churches are tasked with cleaning Ho Central Lorry Station and the surrounding market, while basic schools will manage their school environs.
Chiefs, Assembly Members, and community leaders have been urged to mobilise residents in areas not specifically assigned, encouraging participation in traditional Ghanaian colours or institutional attire.
The Assembly called on all stakeholders and residents to cooperate fully to ensure a successful exercise and sustain Ho’s cleanliness, green spaces, and overall aesthetic appeal throughout the year.
