Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed optimism that the Black Stars are fully prepared for their opening Group stage clash against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, describing the team as fit, focused, and motivated ahead of the encounter.
The Leicester City forward said preparations in camp have been encouraging, with improved intensity and a strong sense of unity among the players as Ghana fine-tunes its approach to the tournament.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association website, Issahaku noted that training sessions have been productive and that the squad is steadily reaching peak condition ahead of the match at BMO Field.
“The energy in camp is great, and everyone is ready. Training is going well and we’re just getting ready,” he said. “I can see the changes. We’re getting fit and preparing well for the game.”
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and are aiming to begin their campaign on a positive note. For Issahaku, the tournament represents another opportunity to represent his country on football’s biggest stage, following his debut at the 2022 World Cup.
“I feel amazing because it’s always a dream come true to be part of a World Cup team,” he said. “The first time was about experience and I learnt a lot. Now I want to give everything to help the team achieve better results.”
The 22-year-old winger added that the growing confidence within the squad could be a key factor in Ghana’s performance in the tournament.
“There is so much confidence in the team,” he said. “The training is helping us improve, and I believe it will push us forward.”
Issahaku also appealed to supporters back home to continue backing the team as they aim for a strong showing on the global stage.
“To Ghanaians, I say keep supporting and keep praying for us. We will work hard to make you proud,” he added.
Ghana will face Panama in their opening World Cup match on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, with kickoff scheduled for 23:00 GMT.
