Joe Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance, is calling for a shift in how Ghanaians understand the country’s economic challenges, warning that widely accepted explanations may be misleading.
Speaking on The Point of View, Mr Jackson argued that dominant narratives—particularly those linking the cedi’s struggles to excessive imports and weak exports—have been repeated so often that they are rarely questioned, despite limited evidence to support them.
He noted that this viewpoint has gained traction across multiple sectors, including government, private institutions and civil society, shaping public opinion and policy discussions.
However, Mr Jackson stressed that a closer look at available data presents a more complex picture, suggesting that these assumptions do not fully explain Ghana’s economic realities.
According to him, the persistence of such narratives risks oversimplifying key issues and may hinder efforts to design effective solutions.
He therefore urged policymakers, analysts and the public to critically reassess commonly held beliefs about the economy, emphasising the importance of grounding discussions in data rather than repetition.
Mr Jackson maintained that a deeper and more accurate understanding of economic dynamics is essential if Ghana is to address its challenges and chart a sustainable path forward.
