The Ketu Divisional Police Command has stepped up its campaign against road traffic violations, with 58 motorbikes impounded during a special enforcement exercise aimed at reducing the growing number of motorcycle-related accidents in the area.
The operation, led by the Ketu Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alfred Kudah, targeted riders who flouted key road safety regulations, including failure to wear crash helmets, operating unregistered motorbikes, riding without side mirrors and carrying more than one pillion passenger.
Police also removed unapproved lighting systems found on some motorcycles, describing them as hazardous to other road users. The affected riders, however, will still face prosecution for the additional offences detected during the exercise.
According to ACP Kudah, the rising incidence of motorbike crashes within the Ketu South Municipality has become a major concern, prompting the Command to intensify enforcement efforts.
He said the exercise is part of a broader strategy to improve compliance with road traffic laws and enhance safety for both riders and motorists.
“The rate at which motorbike accidents are increasing is worrying, and we cannot remain unconcerned. That is why we are intensifying enforcement to ensure compliance,” he stated.
The Police Commander also reminded motorists that offences such as the use of unauthorised lights, illegal sirens and driving on road shoulders are not limited to motorbike riders but apply to all categories of vehicles.
He disclosed that the owners and riders of the impounded motorcycles have been processed and are expected to appear before the Tokor Circuit Court on Monday, June 29, 2026.
ACP Kudah urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations to protect lives and reduce preventable accidents.
He further announced that similar enforcement operations will be conducted at least once every two weeks until there is a marked improvement in adherence to road safety rules.
The Ketu Divisional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety and appealed to the public to support the initiative through full compliance with traffic laws.
