The Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, has called for a major rethink in public-private partnerships and corporate leadership across Africa, urging businesses to focus on long-term value creation rather than immediate gains.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum, Mr. Dadey emphasized that sustainable economic growth in Ghana and the continent depends on responsible business practices rooted in corporate governance, ethical conduct, and societal contribution.
“When private enterprise partners with government, the question should not be: ‘How much can we take?’ The question should be: ‘How much value can we create together?’” he said, stressing the importance of viewing corporate citizenship as a central business strategy rather than a peripheral activity.
Using KGL Group’s model as an example, he highlighted that trust and credibility are critical economic assets in emerging markets like Ghana. Genuine partnerships, he argued, must deliver measurable outcomes, improved service delivery, and lasting benefits for both the state and citizens.
Mr. Dadey also urged African business leaders to shift away from personality-driven enterprises toward systems and structures that endure beyond their founders. “The real test of a great African business is whether it can outlive the founder, outgrow the founder, and out-serve the founder,” he said.
Addressing policymakers, he called for an enabling environment for local businesses through fair regulations, policy consistency, and transparency. To private sector leaders, he underscored the need for discipline, accountability, and ethical conduct to build public trust and institutional resilience.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Dadey challenged stakeholders to move beyond rhetoric and focus on creating institutions and practices that will drive long-term national progress. He emphasized that Africa’s future business champions will not be measured solely by profit, but by the value they create, the trust they earn, and the positive impact they have on society.
