The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly has stepped up preparations for the 2026 Homowo Festival with the presentation of food items and other provisions to the 10 clans of Kpone.
The items, presented by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, included sacks of maize, gallons of palm oil, cartons of bottled water, assorted drinks and other provisions.
Mr Morton said the donation was made on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to support the traditional authorities and the various clans in their preparations for the annual festival.
He used the occasion to appeal to the traditional leadership and residents to ensure that the celebrations were conducted peacefully and in accordance with the values and traditions of the Kpone people.
The MCE urged the clan leaders to safeguard the integrity of the Homowo Festival and promote peace before, during and after the celebrations.
He noted that festivals such as Homowo provided an opportunity for families and friends to reunite, strengthen relationships and build new bonds within communities.
Mr Morton assured the traditional authorities that the Municipal Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at promoting unity, peace and development in the municipality.
He also urged residents and visitors to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the celebrations and cooperate with traditional authorities and state institutions to maintain peace and order.
Receiving the items on behalf of the 10 clans, Nii Ofosu Oblie V, Mankralo of the Kpone Traditional Council, expressed appreciation to the Municipal Assembly for the gesture.
He said the donation had come at an appropriate time and would contribute significantly to preparations for the festival.
Nii Oblie assured that the items would be distributed fairly among the 10 clans to support their respective preparations for the celebrations.
He further pledged the commitment of the traditional authorities to continue working with the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful celebration that respected the customs and traditions of the Kpone people.
The Homowo Festival is celebrated annually by the Ga-Dangme people to commemorate their victory over hunger and serves as an important occasion for thanksgiving, unity and the preservation of cultural heritage.
