Health officials in the Kwahu West Municipality have confirmed the area’s first case of Mpox, prompting swift intervention measures to prevent the virus from spreading.
Municipal Health Director Celestine Asante confirmed the case on Sunday and assured residents that the situation was under control. She said health teams had already begun contact tracing and were confident the outbreak could be contained with community cooperation.
“We understand the concern and fear this news may bring, but we are fully prepared to handle the situation,” she stated. “With the public’s support, we can stop this virus in its tracks.”
As part of prevention efforts, Ms. Asante advised residents to temporarily avoid close physical contact — including kissing, sharing personal items, or using another person’s bed or pillow — to reduce the risk of transmission.
She also stressed the need for strict hygiene practices such as regular handwashing with soap under running water, particularly after using the bathroom and before meals.
Residents were urged to be on the lookout for symptoms of Mpox and report any suspected cases immediately to health authorities for prompt action.
Health officials say public awareness and adherence to safety guidelines will be crucial in stopping the virus from spreading beyond the first confirmed case.
