Private legal practitioner Kwesi Botchway Jnr. has formally petitioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for detailed information regarding the GH¢600 million the anti-graft agency reportedly recovered as of December 2025.
In a letter submitted to EOCO’s Executive Director in Accra on Monday, March 2, 2026, Mr. Botchway cited President John Dramani Mahama’s statement during the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA), in which the recovery was publicly announced.
Invoking the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), the petition, titled “Request for Information Regarding the Recovery of GHC600 Million as of December 2025”, seeks comprehensive documentation and clarity on five key points:
-
Case Details – titles and numbers of cases linked to the recovered funds.
-
Individuals Involved – identification of persons connected to the recoveries.
-
Nature of the Cases – explanation of the matters under investigation.
-
Recovery Timeline – dates on which the funds were recovered.
-
Financial Accountability – bank accounts into which the recovered GH¢600 million were deposited.
Mr. Botchway emphasized that the request is driven by public interest and the need to promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.
“This request is made in good faith and in the interest of transparency, public accountability, and strengthening public confidence in the national fight against corruption,” the lawyer stated.
The petition underscores growing calls for detailed reporting on state recoveries and the effective use of funds reclaimed from corruption, ensuring that citizens can track government anti-graft initiatives.
