Lawyers for former National Food Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni, have accused officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office of denying them access to their clients more than 24 hours after their re-arrest.
The couple and other accused persons were taken back into custody shortly after the Office of the Attorney General withdrew charges against them, citing the emergence of fresh evidence in the case.
Speaking on JoyNews, lead counsel and former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah-Dame said repeated attempts by his legal team to meet their clients at EOCO had been unsuccessful.
According to him, junior members of his legal team who visited the EOCO offices were still denied access as of late morning.
He further disclosed that Mr Hanan reportedly fell ill during the re-arrest process and was taken for medical treatment before being returned to EOCO custody.
Despite that, he said his client remains in detention without access to legal representation.
Mr Yeboah-Dame criticised the development, describing it as a violation of due process and insisting that if the state has a legitimate case, authorities must follow constitutional procedures and allow the matter to proceed in court.
