Real Madrid have made a significant move to bolster their defense by securing Bournemouth’s rising star Dean Huijsen, beating other clubs to meet his £50 million ($60 million) release clause. The 20-year-old defender, who has impressed during his breakout Premier League season after joining Bournemouth from Juventus, will officially join Madrid on June 1, just in time for the Club World Cup.
Huijsen’s arrival comes as a much-needed boost for Los Blancos, who have struggled with multiple defensive injuries throughout the 2024-25 season, sidelining key players like Éder Militão, Antonio Rüdiger, and David Alaba. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti praised Huijsen as a “great, young player with a lot of potential” and emphasized the club’s ambition to maintain its position at the top of world football.
The young Spanish international has already experienced top-flight football across three major leagues—Italy’s Serie A with Juventus and Roma, England’s Premier League with Bournemouth, and now LaLiga with Madrid. His nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award highlights his rapid rise.
Bournemouth expressed their appreciation for Huijsen’s contributions during their historic Premier League campaign and said they look forward to supporting him in his final two games before his transfer.
Real Madrid is not stopping there; the club is reportedly pursuing further reinforcements, targeting full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Álvaro Carreras ahead of the Club World Cup starting June 14. Additionally, a managerial change may be on the horizon, with Xabi Alonso expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, potentially overseeing Huijsen’s integration into the squad.
This strategic strengthening signals Madrid’s determination to overcome a challenging season and continue their pursuit of domestic and international glory.
