President John Mahama has charged the newly appointed Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, and his First Deputy Governor with the critical task of rebuilding public trust in the central bank while safeguarding its independence.
Speaking at Jubilee House on Tuesday, February 25, during their swearing-in ceremony, Mahama underscored the importance of the Bank of Ghana in stabilizing the economy and maintaining financial credibility. He urged the new leadership to focus on strengthening the institution’s reputation.
“Your role goes beyond managing monetary policy. You must work to restore confidence in the central bank and ensure that it remains a pillar of economic stability,” he emphasized.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to non-interference in the bank’s operations, assuring the new appointees that his administration would respect the institution’s autonomy.
“As President, I am committed to ensuring that the central bank operates free from political influence and is guided strictly by its mandate,” Mahama stated.
He further called on Dr. Asiama and his deputy to uphold sound fiscal management and adhere strictly to regulatory guidelines, stressing that these principles were essential in achieving a resilient and sustainable economy.
With economic stability at the forefront of his administration’s priorities, Mahama’s directive signals a renewed focus on reinforcing the Bank of Ghana’s credibility and effectiveness in monetary governance.
