President John Dramani Mahama has charged newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, with the responsibility of restoring public confidence in the Ghana Police Service by tackling corruption and enforcing accountability.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama emphasized that the integrity of the police force is crucial to maintaining justice and security in the country. He warned that corruption within law enforcement weakens public trust and threatens the credibility of the justice system.
“Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he noted.
The President urged the new IGP to adopt bold reforms that would ensure transparency and discipline among officers, eliminating unethical practices such as bribery and abuse of power. He stressed that accountability and professionalism must define the police service to enable it to effectively serve and protect Ghanaians.
Mahama also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions and ensuring they operate with fairness, integrity, and efficiency. He encouraged the new IGP to lead with courage and diligence, fostering a police service that prioritizes the safety and interests of the public.
