A 55-year-old man, Bawah Yusif Sarkodie, has appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court facing allegations of defrauding a businessman of GHC500,000 by claiming he could secure a government-seized vehicle at auction.
Sarkodie, who allegedly presented himself as a national security operative and NDC official, is accused of persuading the complainant, Charles Amoakoh, a car rental entrepreneur at Adenta Pantang Junction, to hand over the money to facilitate the purchase of a Toyota Land Cruiser purportedly being auctioned at the Tema Harbour.
According to prosecution led by Chief Superintendent of Police Patience Mario, Sarkodie requested the payment on May 6, 2025, claiming it would cover a token to officials at the Tema Community 18 Municipal Assembly for easier access to the vehicle. The complainant, accompanied by two witnesses, met Sarkodie at the location, where he allegedly received the cash but left behind GHC20,000, his phone, and two reflective jackets, and then disappeared, switching off his phones.
Investigations later revealed that Sarkodie may have been involved in similar fraudulent activities across Accra. He was eventually arrested on September 11, 2025.
Sarkodie has pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretences. The court admitted him to GHC600,000 bail with two sureties and ordered him to report to the police every Monday.
The case has been adjourned to March 9, 2026, as the court continues to examine evidence regarding the alleged scam.
