Lionel Messi has been named in Argentina’s squad for the upcoming international window, which will include his final appearance for the national team against Benin Republic.
Argentina are scheduled to play three friendly matches against Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin Republic, with the clash against Benin set for October 6 in Buenos Aires.
The Argentine Football Association has confirmed that the match against Benin will serve as Messi’s farewell game after 21 years of international football.
The 39-year-old Inter Miami forward announced last month that he would retire from the Argentina national team, bringing an end to a lengthy international career.
However, it remains uncertain whether Messi will feature in Argentina’s matches against Bolivia and Burkina Faso before the farewell fixture.
His inclusion in the squad leaves the decision on his involvement in the first two games with the technical team, while his appearance against Benin has been confirmed as the occasion for his international farewell.
Messi has represented Argentina for 21 years and will now prepare for his final chapter with the national team when he takes the field in Buenos Aires on October 6.
