Elon Musk is on the verge of becoming the first person in history to amass a fortune exceeding $1 trillion, a milestone that would place his personal wealth above the economic output of many countries and some of the world’s largest industries.
The anticipated surge in Musk’s net worth is being driven largely by the public listing of SpaceX, which is expected to significantly boost the value of his holdings. Combined with his stake in Tesla, Musk’s estimated wealth could reach approximately $1.11 trillion.
While the figure is unprecedented, financial analysts note that the vast majority of Musk’s fortune exists on paper in the form of company shares and stock options, making it heavily dependent on market performance and investor confidence.
The scale of the wealth becomes clearer when compared to major economies. Only about 20 countries worldwide currently generate more than $1.1 trillion in annual economic output, meaning Musk’s fortune could surpass the economies of countries such as Taiwan, Ireland, Sweden, Singapore and even his native South Africa.
His projected net worth would also exceed the gross domestic product of Manhattan, one of the world’s leading financial centres and home to Wall Street, whose economy is estimated at just over $1 trillion.
In the United States, Musk’s wealth would outstrip the combined value of all residential and commercial property in Houston, Texas, a city regarded as a major hub of the energy industry.
The figure also surpasses the total amount Americans spent purchasing new vehicles in 2025. Despite more than 16 million new cars being sold across the country, their combined value remained well below Musk’s projected fortune.
Perhaps most striking is the comparison with some of the world’s wealthiest entrepreneurs. The combined fortunes of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are estimated to be slightly less than Musk’s expected net worth.
The billionaire’s wealth would also overshadow the value of the world’s most prominent sports franchises. According to industry estimates, the 50 most valuable sports teams globally are collectively worth only a fraction of Musk’s projected fortune.
If realised, the trillion-dollar milestone would mark a historic moment in global finance, underscoring the extraordinary concentration of wealth created through the technology and space industries.
