The Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, has dedicated the newly constructed St. Peter Outstation Church at Yikene under the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Bolgatanga.
The dedication ceremony, which coincided with the Catholic Church’s celebration of the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, formally set apart the church building for worship, prayer and the celebration of the sacraments.
In a homily delivered during the dedication Mass, Bishop Agyenta commended the St. Peter Outstation faithful for their sacrifice and commitment in completing the church, describing it as a strong expression of faith, unity and dedication.
He noted that the consecration of the building had made it a sacred space that required reverence and proper conduct from all worshippers at all times.
The bishop urged parents, catechists and church leaders to continuously educate children and members of the congregation on the sanctity of the church, as well as the importance of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.
He further encouraged the faithful to make evangelisation a central part of their Christian life, stressing that the growth of the Church depended on the active proclamation of the Gospel by believers.
Bishop Agyenta described Saints Peter and Paul as foundational figures of the Church, noting that Saint Peter established the faith through his declaration of Christ as the Son of God, while Saint Paul advanced its spread through his missionary journeys.
Quoting Saint Paul’s words, “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel,” he challenged Catholics to embrace missionary work and urged families, parishes and outstations to prioritise evangelisation in their daily lives.
The ceremony concluded with a fellowship meal shared among clergy, guests and members of the congregation, marking the historic dedication of the new church in an atmosphere of thanksgiving and unity.
