Newly elected leaders of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Kpando Municipality have pledged to champion the welfare of teachers and initiate development-oriented projects as they assume office for the next four years.
Led by District Chairperson Ms. Rejoice Kessie, the new executive team outlined a comprehensive agenda focused on addressing pressing challenges faced by teachers, including the lack of permanent office space and access to affordable financial support.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms. Kessie stated that one of her administration’s key priorities would be to secure a permanent GNAT Secretariat for the district, ending their reliance on rented premises.
“Our operations deserve a befitting office space, and we’ll work tirelessly to make this a reality,” she assured.
Another major initiative announced was the creation of a Thrift and Loan Scheme tailored for members in urgent financial need. According to Ms. Kessie, this would serve as a safer alternative to predatory loans from unregulated lenders, which often leave teachers in financial distress.
Recognising the challenges faced by newly posted educators, the new GNAT leadership also plans to establish a dedicated support fund to ease their transition into the district.
Additionally, Ms. Kessie revealed plans for health-focused programmes, including regular breast cancer screening sessions to promote early detection and treatment.
Other elected executives include Moses Agbemafle as Vice-Chairman, Ms. Joyceline Asimenu as Treasurer, and Mr. Courage Bansah as District Trustee. Also sworn in were representatives across various sectors of education within the district, such as Michael Dzide (Basic School), Bright Agbenorxevi (Education and Administration), Livingston Aleawogne (SHS/SHTS), Ms. Janet Buadi (GNAT-LAS), and Asamani Richard (Youth Coordinator).
The new leaders were officially sworn into office by Mr. Newton Arku, Volta Regional TVET Coordinator, who urged them to uphold the values of service, transparency, and dedication.
