Tension is mounting at New-Konkrompe, a farming community in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality of the Bono East Region, following the discovery of the lifeless body of an unidentified man tied with a rope and hanging from a tree near a refuse dumpsite.
The body, believed to be that of a man in his 50s, was found by residents on the morning of Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police later retrieved and, in consultation with traditional authorities, arranged for the immediate burial of the remains.
But the incident has unsettled many locals, who insist that because the deceased was not a native of the town, rituals must be performed to pacify the gods and prevent misfortune in the community.
“This is not ordinary. If the body is a stranger’s, we cannot just bury him here without observing the necessary traditional rites,” one resident told the Ghana News Agency.
Elders of the town are expected to meet traditional priests in the coming days to determine what cleansing rituals may be required.
Meanwhile, the police say investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances that led to his death.
The grim discovery has sparked anxiety among residents, with many calling on the authorities to step up security patrols in the farming enclave.
