The newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has pledged to lead efforts to rebuild and reposition the party, calling for unity among members following the party’s national executive elections.
In his victory and acceptance speech, Mr Boadu thanked his supporters for their confidence and extended a hand of friendship to all the other candidates who contested the various positions.
“To those who supported us, thank you for your confidence. To those who contested with us, I extend my hand of friendship and fellowship,” he said.
He stressed that the election should not create winners and losers within the party, insisting that the NPP must remain united around a common purpose.
“There must be no winners and losers. There must be only one NPP, united around one purpose,” he stated.
Mr Boadu said his administration would focus on building a renewed NPP that listens more, consults widely, organises effectively and prepares deliberately for the future.
According to him, strong political parties survive by learning from their experiences, renewing themselves and responding to changes in society.
Focus on grassroots structures
The new National Chairperson said his administration would work closely with regional and constituency executives, branch members, Members of Parliament, the Minority Caucus, party patrons and other organised groups to strengthen the party.
He specifically mentioned the Minority Caucus led by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin as an important component of the party’s organisational structure.
Mr Boadu also pledged to deepen the NPP’s engagement with voluntary groups, task force members, social media practitioners and traditional media organisations.
He said the party must use modern communication platforms responsibly while maintaining the traditional relationships that have sustained the organisation.
Youth and education
The NPP National Chairperson also placed emphasis on young people and tertiary institutions, saying the party must make the youth feel that the NPP is their political home.
He said tertiary institutions should serve as centres for constructive political dialogue and leadership development.
“Education has always been central to our philosophy of development, and we will continue to demonstrate that commitment,” he said.
Strengthening party finances
Mr Boadu further pledged to work with the NPP’s flagbearer and national leadership to strengthen the organisational and financial foundations of the party, particularly at the constituency level.
He also promised greater engagement with the business community and Ghanaian entrepreneurs.
He said the party would engage entrepreneurs with “openness and respect” while promoting policies aimed at expanding opportunities and creating an environment in which businesses can flourish.
‘Victory must be earned’
The new National Chairperson cautioned party members against taking political victory for granted, saying electoral success must be earned through service, organisation, credibility and the confidence of Ghanaians.
“Political victory is never guaranteed. It must be earned through service, organisation, credibility and the trust of the Ghanaian people,” he said.
He said preparations must begin immediately, with the party reaching out from the grassroots upwards, strengthening constituency structures, empowering young people, supporting women and valuing professionals.
He also called for greater engagement with traditional and religious leaders.
Mr Boadu said the NPP must embrace technology while preserving the human relationships that have historically sustained the party.
He further pledged to lead a campaign characterised by dignity and to work with all sections of the party.
He said the mandate would be dedicated to restoring the party’s organisational machinery, with emphasis on discipline and organisation.
“We will choose discipline over disorder, organisation over confusion, and the interests of the party and the state over personal interests,” he stated.
Mr Boadu concluded by calling for divine guidance for the party’s leadership and prayed for strength and protection for its leaders.
He ended with a call for God’s blessings on the NPP and Ghana.
